With a huge match against Seaforth coming up on Wednesday, the Orange women’s soccer team put away J.F. Webb in a doubleheader in Hillsborough on Monday.
Webb had just three players for the match. Orange won both dual matches 9-0 to improve to 9-1 overall, 5-1 in the Big 7 Conference.
There were only two contests in each of the dual matches. In the lone singles match of the opening match, sophomore Emery Kruse won 8-1. Kruse is the younger sister of Connor Kruse, the all-time leading scorer in Orange lacrosse history. She’s also the younger sister of Molly Kruse, who played tennis and soccer for Orange and is now at UNC-Chapel Hill.
In the doubles match, two freshmen teamed up for a victory. Gigi Gooden and Stella Smylie won 8-1.
In the second dual match, junior Carolina Sayed won the only singles match 8-0. In the lone doubles match, freshman Caroline Martin and sophomore Emiline Lobdell teamed for the first time to win 8-0. It was the first varsity action for Martin.
Orange is in third place in the Big 7 Conference with a 6-1 league record. They’ve already finished their season series against South Granville and J.F. Webb.
Seaforth is tied with Carrboro for first place in the Big 7 Conference. The Hawks are 4-0 in the Big 7, 6-3 overall. Carrboro is the defending 4A State Champions and the only 4A team in the Big 7 Conference.
Men’s Soccer: Southeast Alamance 4, Orange 1:
The Orange men’s soccer team dropped the first of back-to-back games against Southeast Alamance on Monday night. The Stallions scored twice in the first half to defeat the Panthers in Hillsborough.
Stallions goalkeeper Logan Bigelow made 15 saves to earn the win for Southeast Alamance, who improved to 3-3-1 on the season. Zwe Muang had a goal and an assist for the Stallions, who are led by former Cedar Ridge head coach Chauncey Brummell.
Noah Teabout, Rodrigo Arellano and Karl Sims also scored for Southeast Alamance. Senior Ethan Martinez assisted on two goals.
Orange falls to 1-3-2 and are still searching for its first home win of the season. The Panthers will take the rest of the week off and look to regroup when they face Southeast Alamance again on September in Haw River.
Orange’s game at Southern Durham was supposed to start the season three weeks ago, but it was postponed because of a lack of medical personnel at Spartans Stadium. The game has been rescheduled for September 14 in Hillsborough.
