The Orange women’s tennis team earned its first two Big 7 Conference victories of the season with a doubleheader sweep of South Granville on Monday.
Orange didn’t drop a set in either of the dual matches, winning the opener 9-0. Immediately afterwards, the Lady Panthers defeated the Vikings 6-0 in the second dual match.
Senior Ellie Wilson captured two singles matches on the day. Wilson defeated Dayana Bazan 8-1. Top singles player Kalynn Mason won two matches in the opener. In singles, Mason defeated Kilson Lavrack 8-0. In doubles action, Mason teamed with sophomore Emery Kruse to defeat Bazan and Gabby Pearce 8-0 in the top doubles match.
Junior Davia Coyle defeated Gabby Pearce 8-0. At #4 singles, junior Cadence Sayed won over Addyson Gay 8-0. Senior Lucy Frank defeated Adalyn Knox 8-0.
Samantha Gover won two matches in the opener. At #6 singles, Gover defeated Joy Grimes 8-1. In the #3 doubles match, Gover and Ella Garrett won over McKenna Womack 8-1.
Sayed also won two matches. In addition to her singles match, Says teamed with Emilie Lobdell to win over Kirson Lavrack and Adalyn Knox 8-6, which was the tightest match of the day.
In the second dual match between the Lady Panthers and the Vikings, there were only six singles matches contested. Orange won all of them.
Wilson defeated Lavrack 8-6. Coyle defeated Bazan 8-0. Frank earned her second singles match over Pearce 8-1. Freshman Hannah Wimsatt, who was a member of the Orange Middle School women’s soccer that won the Orange Person Athletic Conference championship in May, won her first singles match as a Lady Panther. Wimsatt defeated Grimes 8-2.
Carolina Sayed defeated Addyson Gay 8-2. Evelyn Pacheco defeated Knox 8-6.
Orange is now 6-1 overall, 2-1 in the Big 7 Conference.
Orange will travel to the Bull City to face the Durham School of the Arts on Wednesday. Last year, the Bulldogs defeated Orange in the round of 16 of the 5A State Playoffs in Hillsborough. It was the deepest run for Orange in team history.
