The Cedar Ridge Red Wolves will get a home playoff match for the first round of the state playoffs. They’ll be facing a familiar face, as well.
Cedar Ridge will go against Northwood on Wednedsay night at Red Wolves Stadium. Kickoff is at 6.
The Red Wolves went 1-0-1 against the Chargers during the regular season. Starting goalkeeper Brendan Boss posted two clean sheets, including a 2-0 win on September 23. Seniors Ivan Carbajal and Lachlan McGrath scored goals for the Red Wolves in that victory.
In the rematch in Pittsboro on October 19, the two sides played to a scoreless draw. The Red Wolves outshot the Chargers 14-8, including three shots each from Carbajal and Trenton Gill. Boss made five saves to post the shutout.
Boss has five shutouts on the season.

For the 2nd time in three years, the Orange Panthers are in the 3-A state playoffs.
The Panthers travel to Clayton tonight to face the Cleveland Rams, champions of the Two Rivers Conference. Cleveland is 16-3-1 on the season, 8-1-1 in conference play.
Orange is coming off a loss to Northwood in a match to determine the third seed from the Big 8. Instead, the Panthers earned a wildcard spot. The Panthers enter the game 10-9-2, 6-5-1 in the Big 8.

The Orange Panthers are moving on to the Round of 16 in the state playoffs.
Orange traveled to Greensboro on Tuesday night and defeated the Northern Guilford Nighthawks 3-2 on scores of 26-24, 21-25, 21-25, 25-19, and 15-9.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 15-9 on the season. And they continue to rack up the bus mileage.
Orange won their first round match in Eden on Saturday against Morehead Head. After winning in Greensboro on Tuesday, the Panthers travel to Sanford on Thursday night to face Lee County on Thursday night at 6. The Yellow Jackets, seeded 13th, pulled its own five-set upset on Tuesday night, defeating Coastal Conference Champion West Carteret 16-25, 25-18, 28-26, 17-25, and 15-8.

Orange Volleyball could have made its playoff life simple on Tuesday night. Win at Webb, and they finish 2nd in the Big 8 Conference.
It didn’t work out that way.
The Warriors shut out the Panthers 3-0 by scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-19. With the loss, Webb, Orange and Chapel Hill finish tied for 2nd at 8-4 in the Big 8, all behind undefeated conference champion Cedar Ridge.
The playoff field is set to be announced on Wednesday, with 1st round matches set for Saturday. Cedar Ridge will have a home match, and will likely be a top seed.

Typically, we don’t like repeating winners of the Orange or Cedar Ridge Players of the Week. But Drew Lemaster’s game was too good on Friday night. In Orange’s 41-6 win over Cedar Ridge, Lemaster rushed for a career-high 124 yards on 18 carries and intercepted a pass for a touchdown. Plus, he tipped a punt that led to a 58-yard touchdown return for Montavious Beasley. Congratulations to Drew Lemaster, our Orange Panther of the Week for the second straight week!.

While it won’t have the intensity of Saturday’s showdown between the United States and Mexico in the Rose Bowl, the result will satisfy Cedar Ridge just fine.
The Red Wolves defeated archrival Orange 4-2 in boys soccer on Thursday night at Red Wolves Stadium. The victory keeps Cedar Ridge in 2nd place in the Big 8 Conference with a 7-1 mark, 9-4-1 overall. Orange remains in 3rd place at 3-3, 7-7-1 overall.
It was another night where Ivan Carbajal controlled on the stat sheet for the Red Wolves. The leading scorer for CRHS notched two more goals, bringing his season total to 14. He has 31 points.
Chris Walker and Lachlan McGrath also scored for the Red Wolves. McGrath has 5 goals this season, while Walker has 16 points.
Cedar Ridge travels to Southern Durham on Monday, then faces a showdown at Chapel Hill on Wednesday. The Tigers currently lead the Big 8 conference with a 7-0 mark.
