The Cedar Ridge volleyball team turned the race for the Big 7 Conference championship and the top seed for the Eastern Regional of the 5A State Playoffs upside down on Thursday night. The Red Wolves defeated Seaforth 3-1 at Red Wolves Gymnasium in Hillsborough. Cedar Ridge is now tied with Seaforth for first place in the Big 7 Conference with a 6-1 record. Senior Calla Lundberg and sophomore Avery Owens had huge moments. In the opening set, Cedar Ridge fought off six Seaforth set points to win. In overtime, Lundberg had a huge dig off a block attempt by Seaforth’s Abigail Valgus off a point that Cedar Ridge would eventually win to tie the set. Lundberg finished with eleven digs and two aces. Owens alternated from outside blocker and came up with a monster block in the fourth set, turning back an attempt by Seaforth’s Ally Forbes that put the Red Wolves ahead 22-21 in the fourth set and led to the loudest crowd pop of the night. Forbes finished with four kills. Cedar Ridge, which has six sophomores and a freshman in its rotation, is now 13-2 overall. They will travel to Oxford on Thursday night to face J.F. Webb as they continue to pursue its second straight Big 7 Conference championship.
