This week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week is senior tennis player Jasmin Brown. Last week, Brown captured two matches as the Red Wolves defeated Eno River Academy 6-3 for its first dual match win of the season. It was the first victory for new Cedar Ridge women’s tennis coach Noah Powers. Against the Bobcats, Brown defeated Clara Sanford in the top singles match 6-2, 6-2. Brown teamed with Lydia Bordelon to defeat Sanford and Meg Brinkman 8-6 in the top doubles match. Brown spend her summer working as a lifeguard at Hollow Rock Racquet and Swim Club in Chapel Hill, where she works on her tennis game. She also competes for the Cedar Ridge swimming team during the winter, which requires her to wake up at around 5:30AM for practices at the Orange County SportsPlex. Brown started this season with a three-set win over Camden Markey of Western Alamance, winning the third set 10-4 in a 10-point tiebreaker. Last year, Brown defeated Yareli Gonzalez of St. Pauls 6-0, 6-2 in the opening round of the 5A State Dual Team Playoffs. Cedar Ridge defeated the Saints 6-0. In the second round against Western Alamance, Brown won the #1 singles match over Kensley Gasaway 6-4, 6-3. Brown will continue her senior season against South Granville on Wednesday in Hillsborough.
