The Cedar Ridge women’s tennis team swept three doubles matches to defeat Durham School of the Arts at Red Wolf Tennis Courts on Monday. The Red Wolves earned its first Big 7 Conference win of the season against a Bulldogs team that reached the 5A State Dual Team quarterfinals last year. Senior Madeline Galindo-Woodring and junior Phoebe Lund each won two matches on the day. Galindo-Woodring defeated Maggie Muller 6-1, 6-1 in the #3 singles match. In the top doubles match, Galindo-Woodring and Jasmin Brown defeated Yunah Park and Maggie Muller 8-3, which clinched the dual match victory for Cedar Ridge. Lund’s doubles match was the first one to finish. Lund teamed with sophomore Lydia Bordelon to defeat Eleanor Smith and Lillian Judd 8-2. Lund also won her singles match over Smith 6-2, 6-3. New Cedar Ridge head coach Noah Powers earned his first conference win. The Red Wolves had a brutal schedule in August, playing defeated 4A State Champion Carrboro twice. Cedar Ridge has marched on behind senior Jasmin Brown, a co-Captain along with Galindo-Woodring. While Galindo-Woodring plays tennis in the fall, she focuses on softball in the spring. Being a natural hitter, Galindo-Woodring has to remind herself that power isn’t always the objective. Cedar Ridge will host Triangle Match & Science Academy on Tuesday afternoon at Red Wolf Tennis Courts.
