Alexis Stephens: As a freshman, Stephens started her first college soccer game for Division II Shaw University on Friday. Mount Olive defeated the Bears 2-0 at Amon Field. Stephens made 13 saves and kept the Spartans scoreless for the opening 60 minutes until Sydney Garcia broke through in the 61st minute. Shaw will face Barton College on Wednesday in Wilson.
Cameron Lanier: The Elon Phoenix opened the season going 1-2 in the Quest for the Crown event at the ODU Volleyball Center at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. On Friday, St. John’s defeated the Phoenix 3-1 on scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-19. Lanier led Elon with 14 kills, She also had eleven digs and three assists. On Saturday, Norfolk State defeated the Phoenix 3-1 (25-23, 26-28, 30-28, 25-14). Lanier had 12 kills, six digs and an assist. Elon earned its only win of the event with a 3-1 victory over Old Dominion (25-14, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22) Once again, Lanier led the Phoenix with 15 kills and also had a team-high six digs. She had three aces. Elon will travel to UNC Asheville on Tuesday.
Cameron Lloyd: The Bucknell Bison went 1-2 at the Marshall Tournament in Huntington, WV this weekend. At the Henderson Center on Friday, Ohio swept the Bison (25-16, 25-21, 25-19). Lloyd had eight kills with six digs and an ace. To start a doubleheader on Saturday, Marshall swept Bucknell (25-19, 31-29, 25-21). Lloyd, who had switched to libero last season, went back to attack mode and finished with eight kills, along with eleven digs and an ace. Bucknell defeated Niagara 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-17). Lloyd led the Bison with nine digs and was tied for second on the team with seven kills, along with an ace. Bucknell will compete in the Boston College Invitational next weekend, starting with New Hampshire on Friday morning.
Aubrey Jordan: A year after she surpassed over 1,000 kills for Orange, Jordan made her college debut with the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs in a sweep of Morgan State on Friday at the Lehigh Tournament in Bethlehem, PA (25-23, 25-21, 25-10). Jordan played in one set against the Bulldogs. Lehigh defeated Gardner-Webb 3-0 on Friday. On Saturday, Cleveland State swept the Runnin’ Bulldogs.
Katie Silcott: In her first college match for Division II Palm Beach Atlantic, Silcott faced a former Cedar Ridge rival in Anaya Carter. Silcott played in all three sets as the Sailfish swept UNC Pembroke (25-21, 25-19, 25-16). Playing extensively as a setter, Silcott had 22 assists with three digs. Palm Beach Atlantic went 3-1 in the Shark Invitational at Rick Case Arena in Fort Lauderdale, FL. On Friday, the Sailfish swept Middle Georgia State (25-16, 25-16, 25-21). Once again, Silcott led the team with 17 assists and also registered five digs with one kill and one ace. On Saturday, West Palm Beach swept Middle Georgia State again (25-13, 25-18, 25-15). Silcott had 15 assists, four digs and one ace. The only loss for the Sailfish on the weekend came against Nova Southeastern, the host team, who swept them (25-22, 26-24, 25-16). Silcott finished with 17 assists and six digs. Palm Beach Atlantic will journey to Denver to compete in the Colorado Premier Challenge next weekend.
Anaya Carter: UNC Pembroke went 1-3 in the Shark Invitational. In the loss to Palm Beach Atlantic, Carter, a member of Cedar Ridge’s 2021 3A State Championship team, finished with four digs, playing two sets. Nova Southeastern defeated the Braves 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23). Carter played in one set in a win over Middle Georgia State on Saturday (25-19, 25-14, 25-23). Carter finished with one dig against the Knights. Nova Southeastern, which won the event, defeated the Braves on Saturday 3-1 (25-22, 27-29, 25-9, 25-19). Carter played in all four sets. The Braves will host the UNC Pembroke Invitational starting on Friday at Lumber Guaranty Bank Court. They will host Virginia State to start the event on Friday afternoon.
Sydnee Tapper: The starting libero for Cedar Ridge’s 2025 Big 7 Conference championship team made her debut for the Division II Barton College Bulldogs on Saturday. Newberry defeated Barton 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-18) at Wilson Gymnasium in Wilson. Tapper played in two sets. Barton’s only win in the Bulldog Invitational came in a 3-1 win over Elizabeth City State on Saturday (20-25, 27-25, 25-19, 25-22). Tapper played in one set. Barton will also play in the UNC Pembroke Invitational next weekend and will face Virginia State on Friday morning.
