One thing is for sure for Cedar Ridge men’s soccer. After starting the season against two-time defending State Champion Western Alamance, the schedule can only get easier.
On Tuesday night, the Warriors defeated the Red Wolves 10-1 at Red Wolves Stadium. Two Western Alamance players had hat tricks. Elio Anguiano had three goals and registered three assists, finishing with nine points on the night. His younger brother, Edwin Anguiano, also had a hat trick. Western Alamance scored eight goals in the first half.
Senior Franky Maya had two goals. Junior Grant Bacchus had a goal and two assists. Camden Oliveria also had a goal for the Warriors. Brooks Miciotto and Joshua Lush each registered an assist.
Cedar Ridge’s first goal of the season from senior Sawyer Smith, assisted by Noah Koehler. Cameron Gillmore and Grady Coleman shared time at goalkeeper for the Red Wolves.
Recently, Western Alamance had its 53-match undefeated streak come to an end with a loss to Cardinal Gibbons.
Cedar Ridge will host Eastern Alamance on Thursday night at Red Wolves Stadium.
Women’s Tennis: Carrboro 7, Cedar Ridge 2
For the second time in three weeks, Cedar Ridge faced the defending 4A State Champions on Wednesday afternoon. The Jaguars improved to 4-0 in the Big 7 Conference going into a nonconference matchup against Pinecrest on Thursday.
Cedar Ridge’s Madeline Galindo-Woodring won her #3 singles match over Lauren Curry 7-5, 6-0. At #6 singles, Ivaree Eads of Cedar Ridge defeated Oreofe Aderoju 6-2, 6-1.
Bea Unwin, Clair O’Brien, Ellie Nicholas and Taiya Ziya all won singles matches for the Jaguars, who improved to 5-2 overall.
Unwin & O’Brien teamed to win the top doubles match for Carrboro over Jasmin Brown and Galindo-Woodring 8-4. Eva Noar and Bailey Birrenkott defeated Cedar Ridge’s Lydia Bordelon and Phoebe Lund. Carrboro completed the doubles sweep when Mackenzie Birrenkott and Ellie Nicholas won over Lucinda Smylie and Ivaree Eads 8-0.
Cedar Ridge is 1-5, 0-2 in the Big 7. They will face Northwood in Pittsboro on Thursday.
