This week’s Defensive Player of the Week is Cedar Ridge junior linebacker Ethan McCall. On Saturday, McCall led the Red Wolves with eight tackles against East Chapel Hill. McCall also played running back and had two touches on offense. A native of Efland, McCall started playing football when he was in 7th grade at Gravelly Hill Middle School in Efland. Against Smith Middle School in his eighth grade year, he scored four touchdowns, where he played for then-head coach Anthony Cecil. He played linebacker and running back for the Grizzlies. Lsat year, McCall rushed for 100 yards and scored a touchdown as the Red Wolves defeated Graham 28-6 at Red Wolves Stadium in Hillsborough. McCall also played linebacker. Against the Red Devils, McCall was instrumental in helping Cedar Ridge end a long losing streak. While Cedar Ridge won’t be playing this weekend since Graham decided not to field a varsity team this year, he continues practicing daily. Last year, McCall played linebacker for the Red Wolves. In the spring, McCall plays lacrosse for the Red Wolves, which makes Red Wolves Stadium a place he’s grown very familiar with. The Cedar Ridge football team will continue its season against Western Harnett in Lillington on September 4.
