After winning the Big 7 Conference championship last spring, the Cedar Ridge baseball team had five seniors sign to play at the next level. Among them is third baseman Walker Holmes, who will join the new program at Carteret Community College in Morehead City next winter. Last season, Holmes was a regular starter for a Red Wolf team that went undefeated in conference play for the first time in school history. He played third base and designated hitter. On senior day against Durham School of the Arts, Holmes scored a run and drew a walk in a 10-0 Red Wolf win in five innings. Holmes also was a varsity player for three seasons. He will join the Carteret Krakens, who will be coached by Blake Herring when the program plays its first game at Big Rock Stadium. Herring won over 250 games over ten years as the head coach at Louisburg College. Cedar Ridge went 19-6 overall in 2026, 12-0 in the Big 7 Conference. Holmes helped the Red Wolves reach the state playoffs each of the last three seasons and will shift towards building a new program by the coast of North Carolina, an area that is rich with baseball history and atmosphere. Carteret Community College will play in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
