A long, hot day for the Eno River women’s tennis team ended with a victory in Burlington.
Clara Sanford and Meg Brinkman each won two matches as the Bobcats defeated Clover Garden School 8-1 in Burlington. With the heat index well over 100 degrees at 3PM, which was the originally scheduled starting time, the match was pushed back to 6PM. The coaches agreed that only one set would be contested in the singles matches, with the winner having to take eight games.
Even with the adjustments, the team bus didn’t arrive back to Highway 57 until 10:30PM.
The Bobcats improved to 2-0 on the season.
Sanford defeated Norah Mumburi 8-1 in the top singles match. Sanford teamed with Brinkman to defeat Norah Mumburi and Ava Phillips 8-5 in the most competitive match of the day.
Brinkman took the #4 singles match over Noreen Mumburi 8-1.
The Bobcats’ Dahlia Kisala defeated Blair Davis in the #2 singles match 8-1. Kisala with Sadie Davies-Payne to defeat Davis and Jessica Payne 8-0 in the #2 doubles match.
At #3 singles, Davis-Payne defeated Ava Phillips 8-0.
Eno River swept the six singles matches. At #5 singles, Natalie Harkins defeated Jaelynn Doiron 8-4. In #6 singles, Lyla York won over Maddie King 8-1.
Clover Garden’s only win came at #3 doubles. Noreen Mumburi and Sofia Smith won over Harkins and York 8-0.
Eno River will face Cedar Ridge at Red Wolf Tennis Court on Tuesday afternoon.
Men’s Soccer: Eno River 9, Chatham Charter 0: After a disappointing loss to Graham to open the season at soccer.com Soccer Complex in Efland last Friday, the Bobcats men’s soccer team rebounded to defeat Chatham Charter in Siler City on Wednesday.
Sophomore Elijah Powell scored a hat trick, the first of his career. Senior Andrew Zarate, junior Lucas Adams-Lynott and Perry Creedle each scored two goals for the Bobcats.
The victory ended the Bobcats six-game losing streak dating back to 2025. Their last win came on October 2, 2025, when they defeated Chatham Charter.
Eno River is 1-1. They will host Clover Garden School in Efland on Monday.
Volleyball: Eno River 3, Oxford Prep 1: On Tuesday, the Bobcats won its Triangle North Conference opener over the Griffins in Oxford on scores of 25-19, 28-30, 25-23, 25-15.
Junior Johanna Jans had a career-high 16 kills in leading the Bobcats to victory. It was her second double-digit kill game of the season. Jans also led the team with four aces.
The Bobcats registered 42 kills against the Griffins. Sophomore Maddie Spohr had nine kills and a team-high 13 digs. Senior setter Rylee Hall finished with a double-double with 27 assists and ten digs. Sophomore Jayda Peoples registered 15 assists.
Eno River has defeated Oxford Prep nine straight times. The Griffins last win over the Bobcats came on September 29, 2021.
Eno River 3, Excelsior Classical School 0: On Thursday, the Bobcats moved to 2-0 in conference play with a sweep of the Flying Lions in Hillsborough.
Once again, Jans led the Bobcats with eleven kills the Bobcats won on scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-17. Jans also led the Bobcats with four blocks and added seven digs. Calla Golembesky, a junior, finished with five kills, two blocks and four digs.
Junior Molly Pierce led the Bobcats with 19 digs. Hall had 16 assists, five digs and a kill. Peoples had 17 assists five digs. Spohr and freshman Maddie Woodson each had four kills.
Woods Charter 3, Eno River 0: On Friday night, the Bobcats stepped out of Triangle North play and fell to Woods Charter in Chapel Hill. The Wolves won on scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-16.
Jans and Spohr led the Bobcats with seven kills. Freshman Juliana Javins had four kills and registered a team-high two blocks.
Pierce had two aces to lead the Bobcats.
Spohr paced Eno River with 20 digs. Jans had 15 digs. Hall finished with 17 assists while Peoples had ten assists.
Eno River is 4-2 overall. The Bobcats will return to Triangle North Conference play with a trip to Creedmoor to face Falls Lake Academy. The Firebirds are the defending 1A State Champions and defeated Orange in Hillsborough on Wednesday.
