With matches against Person, Seaforth and Western Alamance around the corner, the Cedar Ridge volleyball team didn’t allow any drama to set in against Southern Durham.
Senior Addilyn Jackson finished with 14 kills as the Red Wolves swept the Spartans on scores of 25-13, 25-6 and 25-8 at Spartan Gymnasium on Thursday afternoon. It was a career-high for Jackson as Cedar Ridge improved to 2-0.
Jackson’s previous career-high was nine kills last year in a win over Seaforth in Hillsborough.
The Red Wolves started the season with a road win at Roxboro Community School on Tuesday.
Unlike last year, Cedar Ridge doesn’t have a team celebration after every ace. At least, not yet. And it’s just as well because they would have worn themselves out by the end of the second set from dancing. The Red Wolves tallied 18 aces, including six each from sophomores Dani Solomon and Kaitlyn Dixon. Sophomore Avery Owens had three aces.
Solomon, who had 16 kills in the win over the Bulldogs, finished with seven against the Spartans.
The Red Wolves didn’t trail in any of the three sets. Dixon set the tone with an ace on the opening point as Cedar Ridge jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The Red Wolves scored eight straight points, which included three aces from Jackson, to take a 18-4 lead.
In the second set, Solomon served up ten straight winners, including three aces as the Red Wolves took a 20-6 lead. Dixon ended the second frame with back-to-back aces.
Cedar Ridge started the third set on a 6-0 run. Dixon picked right up with consecutive aces to start the frame. Jackson scored five kills in the final frame. To finish out the match, Jackson had an ace to put the Cedar Ridge lead at 23-8.
Laila Burton and Baileigh Terry each had two kills for Southern Durham.
Cedar Ridge will travel to Jordan on Monday night.
