After four years starting for Cedar Ridge baseball, Ian and Grant McGuffey will take their talents to Division III William Peace University. A formal signing ceremony was held last spring inside Red Wolves Gymnasium. The McGuffey brothers were instrumental in the Red Wolves winning the Big 7 Conference championship last year. For most of last season, Grant hit leadoff. Against Orange on March 10, Grant went 3-for-4 with three runs scored as the Red Wolves defeated the Panthers 18-3, the first time ever that Cedar Ridge defeated Orange. Three nights later, Grant earned the win in relief as Cedar Ridge won 6-5 in eight inning. Grant drove in Hudson Kelly for a crucial run in the sixth inning. Ian had an All-Conference season. Starting as a pitcher, at third base and at shortstop, Ian earned the win in a 5-4 victory over East Wake Academy in a game where Dominic Sena drove in the game-winning run. Ian and Grant McGuffey will attend William Peace, where former Cedar Ridge pitcher Phillip Berger played for four seasons. Berger is the all-time school leader with 20 career pitching victories. Ian and Grant McGuffey will be remembered for their contribution in lifting the Red Wolves to the top of the Big 7 Conference over the course of four years.
