This week’s Orange Panther of the Week is senior track & field pole vaulter Owen Grant. On May 15, Grant ended his career at Orange with a seventh place finish in the pole vault at the 5A N.C. High School Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field championships inside Truist Stadium at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. It was the second straight year that Grant qualified for the state championships in outdoor track. Grant earned a spot in Greensboro with a fifth place finish at the Central Regionals at Southeast Alamance High School in Haw River. In May of 2025, he finished 14th at the 3A State Outdoor Championships in Greensboro. Grant transferred to Orange from Walter Williams before his junior season. In 2025, Grant finished 16th in the NCHSAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the JDL FastTrack in Winston-Salem, where he cleared eleven-feet, six-inches. The meet in Greensboro was his swan song for track & field. While he’s competing in pole vaulting, he’s also been a regular in bowling. He’s created a unique technique for holding the ball in the alleys and dreams of playing more competitively after he graduates from Orange in June. Grant will attend UNC-Charlotte starting next August after being the top pole vaulter for the Panthers over the past two years.
