Cedar Ridge senior John Ngunjiri discusses final run with Red Wolves

It was the final track and field meet for Cedar Ridge senior John Ngunjiri on Friday. At the 5A State Track & Field Championships inside Truist Stadium at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, Ngunjiri finished 10th in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:26.69. In the men’s 4×800 relay race, Cedar Ridge finished 13th in the state championships. Ngunjiri ran the anchor leg with Henry Alexander, Alexander Paterno and Landin Tillett comprising the team that finished with a time of 8:45.90. This season, Ngunjiri was a co-Captain on the Cedar Ridge men’s cross country team that pulled an upset in beating crosstown rival Orange to win the Big 7 Cross Country championship at Forest Hills Park in Durham. Ngunjiri was the top runner overall for the Red Wolves, finishing in fourth place individually. Cedar Ridge finished with 50 points, the first of four Red Wolf squads to win a conference championship this academic year. Ngunjiri was All-Big 7 Conference in cross country and outdoor track and field. He has been a member of Cedar Ridge’s cross country and men’s track & field team for the past four years. Upon graduation in June at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill, Ngunjiri will attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
