The Orange lacrosse team is on to the round of 16 in the 6A-1A State Playoffs after defeating Swansboro 18-6 at Auman Stadium in Hillsborough on Thursday night. Junior Owen Wimsatt scored five goals and registered two assists. Senior Brett Clark also scored five goals and added three assists. Clark is now the second-highest scorer in program history with 312 points. It was Clark’s tenth hat trick of the season. In the first quarter, Clark factored in on three of Orange’s four goals, scoring two of them. The Panthers scored the first nine goals of the game against the Pirates. It’s the seventh consecutive season that Orange has won a state playoff game. Wimsatt scored three goals in the fourth quarter. He now has 31 goals this year. Wimsatt is third on the team with 55 points. It was his fourth hat trick of the year. Junior Luca Butera helped Orange’s defensive effort, which kept the Pirates off the board for the opening 23 minutes of the game. Orange advances to the third round to face Carrboro on Tuesday night at 7 inside Auman Stadium. It’s the fifth straight year the Panthers and the Jaguars have met in the playoffs. It will be the third meeting between Orange and Carrboro this year. The two teams split the two meetings in the regular season.
