A change in conferences did little to curb the dominance by the Orange men’s and women’s track and field teams.
For the third year in a row, Orange track swept the team championships in the Big 7 men’s and women’s track & field championships at Seaforth High School in Pittsboro.
In his final conference meet, Orange senior Myles Jermyn won three individual conference titles. Jermyn, who has signed to run at Duke University, captured the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters conference championships. Jermyn also ran in Orange’s 4×800 relay team, joining Gabriel Schmid, Lucas Van Mater and Jack Crandell to win the event.
The Orange men’s team finished with 189 points to claim its fourth conference championship in five years. Durham School of the Arts finished with 152 points for the runner-up spot. Cedar Ridge finished fourth with 62 points.
Seaforth, which finished third, has won three consecutive Mid-Carolina Conference championships.
Jermyn’s younger sister, Reilly, won three conference championships in the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters to help the Orange women’s team claim its third straight conference title. Reilly Jermyn, who won the 5A Central Regional championship in cross country last October, claimed her first outdoor track & field championships after finishing runner-up in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters last year in the Central Conference championships.
Orange sophomore Ava Bishop finished 2nd in the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters. In the 1,600, Jermyn came in at 5:19.53, while Bishop finished at 5:20.11. In the 3,200, Jermyn won a photo finish, crossing the finish line at 11:32.62. Bishop clocked in at 11:32.62.
Orange junior Kaleeya Fearrington won the 100 meter hurdles conference title with a time of 16.93 seconds. That finished greatly helped the Lady Panthers claim the conference title for the third straight edge with 112 points, edging the Durham School of the Arts by one points.
Fearrington, who won the 100 meter sprint at the Orange County Championships at Chapel Hill High School last month, finished third in the conference championships at 13.35 seconds. Gisele Goldston of Durham School of the Arts finished first at 12.97 seconds.
Overall, Myles Jermyn has now won seven individual conference championships. In 2024, he swept the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters in the Central Conference title meet. Last year, he won the 3,200 meters.
Orange’s Gabe Yen captured the conference title in the 110 meters hurdles at 16.27 seconds, edging out J.F. Webb’s Daniel Wright, who came in at 16.34 seconds. Yen finished second in the 300 meter hurdles at 43.83 seconds, finishing just behind Howard Horton of South Granville, who came in first at 43.31 seconds.
Cedar Ridge junior Landon Walker, a three-sport athlete who is a defensive lineman in football and a wrestler during the winter, finished third in the shot put at 44-feet, one-inch. Devinn Harris of DSA captured the league title at 47-feet, four-inches.
Cedar Ridge’s Kazden Luke finished third in the discuss at 118-feet, ten inches. Dylan Watkins of Seaforth took the conference title at 151-feet, one-inch.
J.F. Webb freshman Shykeem Jones stole the show in the sprint events, winning two conference championships. Jones took the 100 meters at 11.54 seconds, beating Carrboro senior Liam Brown, who finished at 11.59 seconds. Jones also won the 200 meters at 22.73 seconds. Miles Mungo of South Granville, another freshman, finished second at 22.89 seconds.
In the women’s field events, Cedar Ridge freshman Michelle Pringley won the shot put with ease. Pringley, who was a reserve center for the basketball team last winter while also qualifying for the state championships in indoor track & field, registered her top throw at 34-feet, seven-inches. Iralynd Clayton of J.F. Webb finished a distant second at 28-feet, five-inches.
Pringley also finished second in the discus throw at 101 feet. Faith Yon of Durham School of the Arts took the championship at 118 feet. MacKenzie Doty of Orange finished third at 97 feet.
The Orange women took the crown after dominating the relay events. The Lady Panthers won the 4×100 and 4×400 meter runs. Fearrington, Kayla Willey, Asia Whitsett, Ivy Dickey. Jermyn, Amantha Reddy, Bishop, and Kinsey Ross all competed in the relay runs for Orange.
Orange took the top three spots in the 800 meters. Jermyn finished at 2:25.91, while Ross finished second at 2:29.58. Reddy finished third at 2:31.25.
Willey finished second in the 400 meter dash at 1:01.32. Gisele Goldston of DSA took the conference title at 1:00.05.
