This week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week is junior striker Kate Finnegan. For the second straight year, Finnegan was the leading scorer for the Cedar Ridge women’s soccer team this season. Finnegan ended the season in style, scoring four goals in the Red Wolves’ 7-0 win over South Granville at Red Wolves Stadium on Wednesday night. Finnegan also assisted on a goal scored by Ava Smith. Finnegan scored 30 goals in the regular season. She has scored 68 goals in her three years with Cedar Ridge. Last season, she scored 29. This season, Finnegan had four hat tricks. On March 25, she scored five goals as the Red Wolves defeated J.F. Webb 8-0 in Oxford. She also scored the game-winning goal in the Red Wolves 2-0 win at Orange. It was the first time that the Red Wolves defeated the Lady Panthers since 2019. Finnegan is a three-sport athlete who has also run cross country and played basketball. She also scored four goals against J.F. Webb on April 27 in Hillsborough. On Monday night, Finnegan scored twice as the Red Wolves defeated Durham School of the Arts 3-0. Cedar Ridge will face Orange at Panther Soccer Field in the opening round of the 5A State Playoffs on Monday night.
