Cedar Ridge Baseball’s Grant McGuffey and Hudson Kelly discuss win over Carrboro

The Cedar Ridge baseball team continue to be the team to beat in the Big 7 Conference. The Red Wolves remain undefeated by beating Carrboro 2-0 at Cedar Ridge Baseball Field on Tuesday night. Both runs were scored by senior shortstop Grant McGuffey. In the second inning, McGuffey had a straight steal of home on a standard throw by Carrboro catcher Max Trojanowski to pitcher Evan Stowe. McGuffey added the second run off a wild pitch in the fourth inning. The Red Wolves were limited to four hits, but still found a way to win over the Jaguars. Junior Hudson Kelly earned his third win of the season, throwing six-and-two-thirds shutout innings and allowing just three hits with four strikeouts. Sophomore Jesus Velazquez earned his third save of the season by striking out Andrew Jones for the game’s final out with the tying run at first base. The Red Wolves are 6-0 in the Big 7, the first Cedar Ridge team in school history to win its first seven conference games. Cedar Ridge is still one game ahead of South Granville in the loss column. The Red Wolves will host J.F. Webb in Hillsborough on Wednesday night. On Thursday, the Red Wolves will travel to Carrboro to complete the two-game series.
