Women’s Soccer Notebook: Mehl scores game-winning goal for Orange in win at DSA; Carrboro blanks Cedar Ridge

After a tough loss to crosstown rival Cedar Ridge before spring break, the Orange women’s soccer team made some lineup changes.

Facing Durham School of the Arts on Monday night, senior Kyla Mehl scored the game’s lone goal as the Lady Panthers defeated the Bulldogs 1-0 in downtown Durham. Mehl, a three-sport senior who also plays tennis and basketball, scored the eleventh goal in her career and her third of the season.

Mehl previously had goals against Eno River Academy on March 5 in Hillsborough and against J.F. Webb in Oxford on March 19.

Senior goalkeeper Alexis Stephens made three saves to earn her third clean sheet of the season. Stephens has committed to play at Division II Shaw University

Orange improved to 4-3-1 overall, 3-2 in the Big 7 Conference.

Orange will return to action against Seaforth in Hillsborough next Monday. Seaforth and Carrboro are tied for first place in the Big 7.

Carrboro 5, Cedar Ridge 0: 

The Jaguars improved to 8-1-2 overall with a clean sheet win over Cedar Ridge at Red Wolves Stadium. Carrboro and Seaforth are tied for first in the Big 7 at 4-0.

The Red Wolves fall to 4-6 overall, 2-2 in the Big 7. The Red Wolves travel to Durham School of the Arts on Wednesday.
