Ian McGuffey and Brody Tapper combined to throw a five inning no-hitter on Monday night as Cedar Ridge defeated Roxboro Community School 12-0 at Red Wolves Baseball Field on Monday. It is the first no-hitter by Cedar Ridge since February 28, 2019, when the Red Wolves opened the season with a 10-0 over Oxford Prep in Mitchell Frazier’s first game as the Red Wolves head coach. After McGuffey walked the first two batters of the game, McGuffey and Tapper combined to retire the final 15 Bulldogs. McGuffey, who earned his second win of the season, struck out four in three innings of work. Tapper, who underwent Tommy John Surgery last year, finished out the game throwing 17 strikes on 19 pitches, striking out two in the final two innings. At the plate, McGuffey finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. The Red Wolves improved to 10-4, equaling its win total from last season with the second half of the year still ahead. It was the third run-rule victory of the season. Hudson Kelly scored three runs for Cedar Ridge, including a two-run single in the second. Tied in the loss column with South Granville for first place in the Big 7 Conference, Cedar Ridge is taking the week off from league play. The Red Wolves will host Apex Friendship at Red Wolves Field on Thursday night at 6PM.
