This week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week is sophomore wrestler Juan Jaramillo. From the start of the season in November, Jaramillo set a dominant tone for a Cedar Ridge squad that marched through the Big 7 Conference undefeated to a league championship. On November 22, Jaramillo won the championship of the Red Wolf Classic, defeating Ahmadullah Ahmadi of Athens Drive 19-12 to take the 106-pound championship. He won his first 21 matches of the season, including a victory over Gerson Gutierrez of Seaforth on December 3 that led to the Red Wolves beating the Hawks 54-24, the first conference loss by Seaforth in over three years. Jaramillo finished the season 39-6, including his first trip to the 5A State Championships at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro. At the Mideast Regionals at Seaforth High in Pittsborough, Jaramillo finished 2nd at 106 pounds. Jaramillo entered the tournament as the #3 seed and earned a trip to the state championships after winning against Alfred Pobadora of Rocky Mount. In his first two years at the varsity level, Jaramillo has already accumulated 72 wins. In his freshman year, he won the 106-pound championship of the Eagle Invitational in Mebane.Jaramillo also earned wins in the State Dual Team Playoffs against Currituck County and Atkins High that helped Cedar Ridge reach the 5A State Quarterfinals.
