It has been quite a year for Cedar Ridge senior wrestler Favio Jaramillo. In the quad meet of the year, he reached his 100th career victory against Eastern Alamance on November 13. On December 3, Jaramillo defeated Seaforth’s Luke Ayers 15-10, which led to the Red Wolves defeating the Hawks 54-24 in a dual match. It was the first time Seaforth has lost a conference match since its first season as a high school. It would propel Cedar Ridge to win the Big 7 Championship. Last week, Jaramillo became the first Red Wolf in four years to win a regional championship in the 113-pound weight division. Jaramillo defeated Luke Ogden of Southern Nash 7-1 in the championship match at Seaforth High in Pittsboro. Jaramillo, the top seed, opened with a pinfall win over Ethan Freeman of Douglas Byrd. In the quarterfinals, Jaramillo defeated Orange’s Brady McAdams via tech fall 18-3. In the semifinals, Jaramillo rolled past Raymi Robles of Croatan 15-4 in a major decision. Jaramillo hung a blank bracket in his room throughout the past year to remind himself of what it took to be a regional champion. Last Saturday, he proudly carried a bracket around with his name on it as the last man standing in the 5A East Regional at 113 pounds.
