Cedar Ridge wrestling’s Isaiah Craig and Landon Walker discuss win at Durham School of the Arts

The Cedar Ridge wrestling team is one win away from the Big 7 Conference championship. Last Wednesday at Sykes Gymnasium, the Red Wolves defeated Durham School of the Arts 79-0. The most competitive match of the night came came at 157 pounds, where senior Isaiah Craig scored a late takedown in the final minute of the third period to defeat Demetrian Alford 8-7. Craig is 22-15 on the season. To finish the night, Landon Walker pinned Solomon Lester in 16 seconds in the heavyweight match to complete a Red Wolf sweep. It was Walker’s fourth win of the season. Walker is a three-sport athlete who also competes in track and field. Will Streilein, Mikey O’Melia and Jose Rios all scored pins for the Red Wolves against the Bulldogs. The Red Wolves improved to 5-0 in conference action. Both Craig and Walker have played for the Cedar Ridge football team. Walker is one of the most promising defensive prospects Cedar Ridge has had. On Wednesday night, Cedar Ridge will travel to Creedmoor to face South Granville. With a win, the Red Wolves will clinch the Big 7 Conference championship. It was be their third-ever regular season championship in wrestling. Two years ago, Cedar Ridge won the Central Conference title with an undefeated run.
