This week’s Orange Panther of the Week is senior cross country runner Myles Jermyn. A leader for Orange’s 2024 3A State Championship team, Jermyn competed against some of the top runners from the Mid-Atlantic region during the Great American Cross Country Festival at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary last week. Jermyn won the 2024 Central Conference individual championship at Lake Cammack Cross Country Course in Burlington last October. Jermyn finished 2nd in the Mideast Region in 2024 as Orange repeated at Mideast Regional champions for the third time in four years last fall. In the State Championships, Jermyn finished sixth overall as Orange captured the team championship. On September 24, Jermyn finished first at a conference meet at South Granville with a time of 17:28.12. Jermyn also finished first during a Big 7 meet at Seaforth High, which the Panthers won with 26 points. Jermyn is the son of Duke cross country coach Tony Jermyn and his sister, Reilly, runs for Orange’s women’s cross country team. Jermyn has been among the most prominent figures during a rich time for Orange cross country in recent years, when the Panthers have won a team state championship and had Gabriel Schmid won back-to-back individual 3A State Championships. On Wednesday, Jermyn and his teammates will go for its fifth consecutive conference title at the Big 7 Conference championships at Forest Hills Park in Durham.
