Orange sophomore pitcher Brian Werden didn’t know what to expect when he made his 1st varsity start on Wednesay against Garner. But he made it count. He earned his first victory as a Panther as Orange won 3-1. Werden retired the first eight Trojans, yielding only two hits and one earned run.

At a time when three-sport athletes aren’t as common, Orange left fielder Chandler Compton is thriving. He’s hitting .471 through the Panthers first seven baseball games, including two key RBIs in Orange’s 11-9 come-from-behind victory over Northern Durham. He’s been a regular starter ever since.
