Orange men’s soccer’s Paolo Alexis & Alex Rosales Mejia Talk Win over J.F. Webb

The Orange men’s soccer team earned its first home win of the season on Monday night. Paolo Alexis earned the first brace of his career, scoring his second goal just as the clock wound down to zero, as the Panthers rolled past J.F. Webb 8-0 at Panther Soccer Field. Alex Rosales Mejia had a goal and an assist and tied for the team lead with four shots as Orange improved to 2-6-3 overall, 1-1-1 in the Big 7 Conference. Brendan McDonald added a goal and an assist. Sophomore Benjamin Patton, who scored Orange’s only goal in a 1-1 tie with South Granville last week, added a goal. Jacob Farrelly, Dylan Tapia Mendez and Eddy Gonzalez-Hernandez also scored for the Panthers. Oliver Santos Duran and Emillo Hidalgo assisted on goals. Orange goalkeeper Jackson Connor earned the first clean sheet of the season. It was the first home win for new Orange head coach Jose Hidalgo, the former head coach at Stanback Middle School. The win over the Warriors came after several near-misses for Orange. The Panthers took Carrboro to overtime at Jaguars Stadium after a scoreless regulation two weeks ago. Last week, Orange led South Granville 1-0 at halftime in Creedmoor. After the Vikings tied the game early in the second half, the game was stopped with 35:00 remaining because of lightning. Orange will travel to Seaforth on Wednesday.
