This week’s Offensive Lineman of the Week is Cedar Ridge junior Braydan Cornett. On Saturday, August 22, Cornett played on both the offensive and defensive lines against East Chapel Hill in the Red Wolves season-opener at Red Wolves Stadium. He helped protect Cedar Ridge quarterbacks Thomas Matthews and Matthew Asay. Matthews threw for a career-high 119 yards. On defense, Cornett played tackle and made a tackle. Since the game was moved to Saturday because of torrential thunderstorms on Friday night, Cornett had to change his plans away from football. Originally, he wasn’t even supposed to be in town. He was supposed to build dog pins in the Sampson County town of Turkey, North Carolina, where his father’s side of the family lives. Cornett has been a faithful Red Wolf for new Cedar Ridge head coach Paul Ronga. Brandon started playing football because his father’s side of the family encouraged him to try the game. Cornett was a member of the varsity as a sophomore, when the Red Wolves defeated Graham to end a 29-game losing streak. Cornett has suited up for 7-on-7 drills during the summer and helped the Red Wolves varsity return to action for this fall. After enjoying last week off, Cornett and the rest of the Red Wolves will return to action against Western Harnett this Friday night in Lillington.
