This week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week is senior football wide receiver Michael Wells. Last Saturday, Wells had a career-high 123 receiving yards on seven catches in the Red Wolves season-opening game against East Chapel Hill at Red Wolves Stadium in Hillsborough. Wells also caught two touchdowns. He had 126 all-purpose yards, including a 60-yard catch-and-run. Like many of his teammates, Wells played both ways against the Wildcats. Starting as a defensive back, he made four tackles and practically played on every snap in the game. Wells worked with Cedar Ridge quarterback Matthew Asay and backup Thomas Matthews to get prepared for their first season under new head coach Paul Ronga. There was plenty of time and sweat exerted during 7-on-7 scrimmages and into August with standard scrimmages. Wells is originally from Ohio and started playing football when he was in third grade. He moved to North Carolina to be closer to family members. Graves prefers living in Hillsborough because it isn’t as cold during the winter. Wells will continue to be active during his senior year as Ronga builds the Cedar Ridge football program. Cedar Ridge will continue its season against Western Harnett in Lillington on September 4. The Red Wolves were supposed to face Graham on Friday, but the Red Devils aren’t fielding a varsity team this year.
