The Orange women’s tennis team has started the season with four consecutive wins after shutting out Northwood 9-0 in Hillsborough on Tuesday.
The matches were capped to ten games on Tuesday, as opposed to the standard two sets in singles play.
With the heat index over 100 degrees at the start of the match, #1 singles player Kalynn Mason paced the Lady Panthers with two wins. She won her top singles match 10-2. Mason also won her doubles match with playing partner Davia Coyle 8-0.
Coyle continued an impressive start to the season with two more victories. In addition to the doubles win, Coyle won her #3 singles match 10-1.
Senior Ellie Wilson won her singles match 10-2. Wilson joined fellow senior Lucy Frank in a victory at #2 doubles 8-1.
Frank won her #4 singles match 10-1.
Junior Samantha Gover won at #5 singles 10-1. Gover teamed with freshman Ava Baker to complete the clean sweep with a 8-0 victory. Sophomore Emery Kruse won at #6 singles 10-0.
Orange 9, Southern Alamance 0
Last Thursday, the Lady Panthers finished a perfect 3-0 start to the week by sweeping former Central Conference rival Southern Alamance in Graham. There were only five matches contested.
Wilson was named the player of the match after she won. her top singles match 10-2. Once again, the rules were adjusted to where the match ended after a player won ten games.
At #2 singles, Coyle won 10-1. Frank won at #3 singles 4-1 before her opponent retired. At #4 singles, Gover won 10-0.
In the only doubles match, Mason and Coyle won 8-1. Coyle has won eight matches overall to start the season, winning twice in each of Orange first four dual matches.
Seaforth 7, Cedar Ridge 2:
In Pittsboro, the Hawks defeated the Red Wolves after sweeping the six singles matches. Ella Kreinar, Mackenzie Wray, Tatum Dell, Ellie Kristiansen, Charlotte Bowman and Avery Hopkins all earned singles wins for Seaforth.
Cedar Ridge senior Jasmin Brown teamed with Madeline Galindo-Woodring to win the opening doubles match over Kristiansen and Bowman 6-2.
The Red Wolves are 0-3 overall, 0-2 in the Big 7 Conference. They will travel to Western Alamance on Thursday. The Warriors defeated the Red Wolves 7-2 last week.
