After glorified leg stretches against Roxboro Community School and Southern Durham to open the year, the Cedar Ridge volleyball team has its first test of 2026 under its belt.
They’re still undefeated.
Playing amidst the low rafters and loud crowd at Falcons Gymnasium, Cedar Ridge had its poise tested against 8A opponent Jordan on Monday night. Sophomore Dani Solomon carried the load with a season-high 22 kills as the Red Wolves won 3-1 on scores of 25-14, 14-25, 25-18, 25-20.
Solomon, who led the Red Wolves with 294 kills last season, registered her fourth career 20-kill match.
Coach Khoury May knows she can get points from Solomon and senior outside hitter Addilyn Jackson. The x-factor on Monday night was senior Calla Lundberg, who stepped up during a crucial stretch in the fourth set.
With Cedar Ridge leading two-sets-to-one, Jordan led 16-13 in the 4th set. Lundberg stepped up and delivered points on five consecutive serves, including two aces, the last of which put Cedar Ridge ahead 20-17. Solomon racked up two more kills during the crucial stretch.
After the Falcons Kaleigh Oh delivered an ace to cut the Red Wolf lead to 20-19, sophomore Kaitlyn Dixon set up Solomon with a kill for a Red Wolf sideout. Jackson scored off a spike along the near post. Dixon would step up at the net with a crucial block for Cedar Ridge’s 24th point. A Jordan return went long on match point.
Jackson finished with ten kills and seven aces.
In the opening set, the Red Wolves led 9-8 before going on a 8-0 run to pull away. Solomon had seven kills in the opening frame. Jackson had four kills, including set point. Dixon and sophomore libero Nora Stoll each registered five assists in the first set.
Jordan (0-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set and never trailed. Sophomore Susana Lowe delivered three aces during the spree. The Red Wolves got as close as 13-8 following a kill by Avery Owens, but Lowe scored a kill and a block as the Falcons dominated the frame.
Jackson had four aces in the third set, including back-to-back points to put the Red Wolves ahead 6-3. Cedar Ridge maintained its advantage for the remainder of the Rame behind eight kills from Solomon. Jordan got three straight aces from Lowe to reduce the Red Wolf lead to 19-18, but Jackson scored a crucial point off a pass from Dixon. Jackson added two more late aces before set point, which Jordan sent into the nylon.
Cedar Ridge (3-0) will travel to Southeast Alamance on Tuesday night, its fourth straight road match to open the year. They will host Person for its home opener at Red Wolves Gymnasium on Thursday.
