After winning division championship after division championship as head coach of the Stanback Middle School Bulldogs, Jose Hidalgo has his first win as a high school soccer coach.
Will Porter scored on a penalty kick late in the first half for the game-winning goal as Orange defeated Eastern Alamance 1-0 at Fred Brady Stadium in Mebane on Monday night. Porter, a senior, earned his first game-winning goal of his Panther career.
Hidalgo replaced Palmer Bowman as head coach of the Panthers last spring. Bowman, the winningest head soccer coach in Orange history, stepped down after eleven years. Last year, he led Orange to its first-ever conference championship for a program that started in the fall of 1987.
Orange (1-1) benefited from an own goal from the Eagles during the second half. The Panthers will face First Flight on Friday afternoon for the annual event sponsored by the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Kickoff will be at 2PM.
