Cedar Ridge football Matthews Asay, Ethan McCall and Kamryn Smith discuss Wake County Academy Scrimmage

The Cedar Ridge football team is starting a new chapter. Paul Ronga is the new coach of the Red Wolves. He arrives from Woodbridge, Virginia, where he coached Freedom High School. A native of New York, Ronga has also coached in Laramie High School in Wyoming, where he just missed out on being near Buffalo Bills Josh Allen during his college days. Senior Matthew Asay returns as quarterback for the Red Wolves. Asay has filled many roles since starting on the varsity during his freshman year under previous head coach Brent Bailey. He helped Cedar Ridge defeat Graham last season. Asay has also been a defensive back and picked off a pass against Orange in 2023. Ethan McCall will be one of the skill players that Ronga will build his offense around. A junior, McCall has also been a defensive back. Cedar Ridge also returns sophomore Kamryn Smith at wide receiver. The Red Wolves will look for a positive new direction as they venture into Big 7 Conference play. They will start against a EastChapel Hill next Friday night at Red Wolf Stadium. The Red Wolves will also have a home game against McMichael before starting conference play against South Granville on October 2 in Hillsborough.
