Bryse Wilson: A nomadic summer for Wilson has led him back to the Milwaukee Brewers, where he was a member of two National League Central Division championships. On Wednesday, Wilson threw mop up duty as San Francisco defeated Milwaukee 16-3 at Oracle Park. Wilson surrendered one-and-two-thirds innings and surrendered three runs off six hits. In his previous appearance for Milwaukee, Wilson threw one inning in Milwaukee’s 11-2 win over Colorado at American Family Field on Sunday. Wilson surrendered one hit and struck out two. Wilson started the season in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He was released on June 3 after making 12 appearances with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs of the International League. Wilson was picked up off waivers by the Chicago Cubs. After two appearances with the Cubs, he was designated for assignment.
Mia Davidson: After undergoing back surgery last year, Davidson spent the summer playing for the Portland Cascade of Athletes Unlimited Softball League. On the final day of the regular season on July 19, the Cascade earned a spot in the playoffs after the Carolina Blaze defeated the Oklahoma City Spark. In a thrilling game, the Chicago Bandits defeated Portland 6-5 in eleven innings at Davis Diamond. It was the longest game in league history. for the season, Davidson played in 16 games and hit .108 with a home run and five RBIs. Davidson also continues to play for Denso Bright Pegasus in Japan’s Diamond League.
Dante DeFranco: Virginia Commonwealth won the Atlantic 10 Conference championship. It was the Rams fourth A-10 title in six years. In an elimination game against Rhode Island, DeFranco hit 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. DeFranco, who played three seasons at Cedar Ridge and his senior campaign at Orange, was the leadoff hitter in each of VCU’s games in the tournament. The Rams would move on to the Chapel Hill Regional of the NCAA Tournament, where they ended #23 Tennessee’s season with a 5-4 victory at Boshamer Stadium. DeFranco went 1-for-4 against the Volunteers. East Carolina eliminated VCU 10-0. DeFranco’s only season with VCU was a strong one after starting his career with the Charlotte 49ers. This season, he hit .277 with four home runs and 35 RBIs. VCU finished 38-25.
Efrain Morales: The Old Dominion Monarchs went 29-26 this season. Morales led the Monarchs with a .348 batting average over 43 games. Morales started 37 games. He his one home runs and 23 RBIs. Georgia State defeated Old Dominion 17-1 in the Sun Belt Tournament at DABOS Park in Montgomery, AL. Morales was a catcher for two years at Cedar Ridge.
Quinn Finnegan: The former Cedar Ridge standout finished his freshman season with Wagner in Long Island, NY. Finnegan started seven games and went 1-3 with eight strikeouts. In May, Finnegan announced he had transferred to Queen’s University in Charlotte.
Ryan Hench: In his first season with the College of Charleston, Hench made 20 appearances. He threw 25 innings and came away with a 2.13 ERA with one save. He had 26 strikeouts and 16 walks. The Cougars went 28-28 and lost to Monmouth and Hofstra in the Coastal Athletic Association Tournament in Wilmington.
Jackson Berini: Also playing for Charleston, Berini hit .240 in 21 games. Berini made 13 starts as a designated hitter. He had 12 hits with two doubles and five RBIs.
Garrett Sawyer: In his freshman season at Division II Ferrum, Sawyer went 1-4 in 14 appearances. He made seven starts with a 6.91 ERA and 41.2 innings. Sawyer earned his first win against Barton University on March 13.
Ryan Honeycutt: In his second season with Division II Lenoir-Rhyne, Honeycutt played in one game. This summer, Honeycutt transferred to Ferrum.
Cross Clayton: Gaston College reached the Region X Championship game, where they lost to Florence-Darlington Technical College at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. The Rhinos finished with a 54-5 record, the best mark in school history. Clayton, in his sophomore season, made 12 starts. He went 6-1 with a 5.98 ERA. He had 27 strikeouts with only five walks. His last appearance came in an 18-2 win over Rockingham Community College. Clayton will transfer to North Carolina A&T to play for the Aggies next year.
