On the road and searching for a season sweep of Eastern Alamance, the Cedar Ridge lacrosse team got its first overtime goal of the season from a junior on the road.
Jeremy Holquist’s second goal of the game turned into the game-winner in overtime as the Red Wolves defeated the Eagles 8-7 in Mebane. It was the first road win of the season for the Red Wolves.
Jackson Burrows stepped up to lead the Red Wolves with a hat trick, his fifth of the season. Burrows scored two goals in Cedar Ridge’s 10-3 win over the Eagles on March 18 at Red Wolves Stadium in Hillsborough. He opened the season with three straight hat tricks against Corinth Holders, Chapel Hill and Walter Williams.
Holquist’s overtime game-winner was his second goal of the game. Trace Chelenza, Joseph Driver and Devon Lewis also added goals for the Red Wolves. Holquist also had three assists and was Cedar Ridge’s leading scorer of the night with five points.
On Monday, leading scorer Joshua Hart returned to the lineup in time to wrap up the regular season in style. Hart scored a season-high nine goals as the Red Wolves rolled past Southeast Alamance 18-12 at Stallions Stadium in Haw River.
In his final regular season game, Hart ended the season with 52 goals. It was his ninth hat trick of the season. It also surpassed his career-high of seven goals set against Eastern Alamance last year, a 16-5 win for the Red Wolves. Hart also had seven goals in a 14-8 win over Southeast Alamance on April 23. Hart ends the regular season with 139 goals in 67 career games.
Against the Stallions, Burrows added five goals, also a season-high. Burrows finishes the regular season with 39 goals. Holquist added two goals while senior goalkeeper Michael O’Melia scored in his final regular season game. Joseph Driver also added a goal.
O’Melia, who was named All-Big 7 Conference in wrestling after qualifying for the state championships, made three saves. Freshman Heath Allen came in to make three saves.
Cedar Ridge will wait to see the pairings for the 6A-1A State Playoffs this weekend. The Red Wolves finish the regular season 5-13.
