Orange runner Adelyn Alvis discusses signing with N.C. State

In February, Adelyn Alvis became the first female in Orange High history to win a state championship in indoor track & field. At the JDL FastTrack in Winston-Salem, Alvis edged out Ella Myers of North Lincoln by six-hundredths-of-a-second to win the 500 meters state championship, finishing at 1:17.27 on February 18. Alvis also finished in the top ten in the 55 meter hurdles, the long jump and the triple jump. On Wednesday afternoon, Alvis formally signed her letter of intent to compete at N.C. State. She was joined by her mother Joy, her father, Chris and her sister Ainsley. Also speaking was Orange’s track and field coach Brian Schneidewind and assistant coach Omar Amed. By no means is Adelyn’s career over. This weekend, she will compete in the 5A Central Regionals at Southeast Alamance High School in Haw River. She made All-Central Conference in outdoor track & field last spring. In addition to her track & field career, Alvis helped the Orange women’s tennis team reach new heights.  Alvis helped head coach Justin Webb win his 200th career match last August. In addition, Orange reached the round of 16 in the state playoffs for the first time in school history last fall. Alvis had singles wins in dual match victories over Southern Nash and Wilson Hunt.
