Softball Alumni Update: Bradsher Hitting .496 for Averett Cougars

Carson Bradsher: Playing her second season with Division III Averett University, Bradsher is hitting .496 in 32 starts. Bradsher leads the team with 40 runs scored and 57 hits. She also leads the team with 16 stolen bases. On Saturday, Averett swept a doubleheader from Randolph College in Danville, VA. Bradsher went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the opening game, which Averett won 11-0. In the nightcap, Bradsher went 4-for-4 with two stolen bases as the Cougars rolled 12-4 in five innings. Averett is 21-15 overall, 6-10 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. On Wednesday, Guilford swept a doubleheader from Averett on scores of 4-0 and 6-3. Bradsher went 1-for-3 in the opener. In the nightcap, Bradsher finished 1-for-3. Bradsher is on an eight-game hitting streak. Averett will face the University of Lynchburg on Tuesday in Lynchburg, then host Sweet Briar College next weekend to wrap up the regular season.

Sadie Cecil: For the week of March 17, Cecil was named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for the Mars Hill Lions. After this weekend’s doubleheader against Wingate, Cecil, a freshman, is second on the team with a .362 batting average. She leads Mars Hill with 50 hits, ten doubles and 83 total bases and is tied for the team lead with 40 RBIs. She is second on the team with seven home runs and 38 runs scored. The Lions are 29-15 overall, 10-10 in the SAC. On Saturday, they split a doubleheader with Wingate at Ponder Field in Mars Hill. Cecil delivered her seventh home run of the season as the Lions won the opener 5-1. Cecil hit a two-run blast, which turned out to be the game-winner, in the third inning. Starting at third base, Cecil went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. The Bulldogs took the nightcap 5-2. Cecil went 1-for-3 with a double and scored the opening run. Mars Hill will travel to Virginia-Wise on Saturday for a doubleheader.

Reagan Simmons: The matchup with Wingate vs. Mars Hill brought several former Hillsborough players together again. Simmons, who played softball and basketball at Cedar Ridge, started both games for Wingate as a designated player. As a freshman, Simmons has played 31 games for the Bulldogs with 21 starts. She is hitting .305 with four home runs and 13 RBIs. On March 18 against Carson-Neman, Simmons hit two home runs in a 7-4 Bulldog victory at The Vick in Johnson City, TN. Wingate is 24-18 overall, 9-11 in the SAC.

Allie Carden: Another Orange freshman playing at Mars Hill, Carden has played in eight games for the Lions.

Mary Moss Wirt: Elon dropped two out of three games against Campbell this weekend. Wirt started as a designated player on Saturday, getting a base hit in her only at-bat. The Camels won 18-1 on Saturday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium in Buies Creek. Wirt started at catcher on Friday and Sunday. The Phoenix took the opener 4-1 on Friday. Wirt drove in the game-winning run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly. Elon is 14-29 overall, 8-10 in the Coastal Athletic Association. Wirt is hitting .228 in 39 games, with 37 starts. Wirt will prepare for senior day next weekend as Elon hosts Stony Brook.

Charlotte Lowry: Pitching for Division II Lees-McRae, Lowry threw three innings against Francis Marion on April 10 at FMU Softball Stadium in Florence, SC. Lowry allowed one run in three hits in a no decision. Francis Marion won 5-0. Lowry has made 16 appearances, compiling a 1-2 record with a 6.42 ERA. The Bobcats are 10-31 overall, 4-23 in Conference Carolinas.

Olivia Aitkin: So far in her senior season at Division III Amherst University, Aitkin has played in nine games. She has three hits. On Wednesday, Aitkin started in centerfield and went 1-for-4 in a 8-5 loss to Springfield College in Springfield, MA. Aitkin was a swimmer and shot golf for Cedar Ridge, as well as a softball player. Amherst is 8-18 overall, 3-9 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
