Alumni Update: Cloer enters the transfer portal after Wade’s N.C. State departure

Coleman Cloer: On Friday, Cloer announced that he was entering the transfer portal, but hasn’t ruled out returning to N.C. State. Cloer, who spent his first two years of high school basketball at Orange, enrolled at N.C. State in January when Will Wade was still the head coach. On March 26, Wade’s agent submitted a resignation letter via email on behalf of his client to Wolfpack athletic director Boo Corrigan, departing Raleigh after just one year. Cloer opted to leave IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL late in 2024 due to an ankle injury and started classes in Raleigh in January. Cloer spent one season at Caldwell Academy in Greensboro, winning the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 2A State Championship in 2025. He was the 2024 Central Conference Player of the Year is leading Orange to the conference regular season and tournament championship. Cloer made the announcement to reopen his recruitment three days after Justin Gainey was introduced as the new head coach of the Wolfpack.

Katie Belle Sikes: The Georgia women’s swimming team finished 15th in the country at the NCAA Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta. Sikes joined Kennedi Dobson, Marie Landreneau and Emma Norton to finish 14th in the country in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:13.19, a season-best. They earned second-team All-American status. Sikes completed her sophomore season with the Lady Dawgs.

Katie Wolter: After redshirting in 2025, Wolter is playing for first year for the Elon women’s lacrosse team. She is the first player from Orange High to play women’s lacrosse at a Division I school. Elon is 6-6 overall, 2-2 in the Coastal Athletic Association after a 9-4 win over William & Mary at Rudd Field in Elon on Saturday.

Connor Kruse: The Lenoir-Rhyne men’s lacrosse team, ranked #6 in Division II, set a program record scoring 30 goals in a game on Saturday. The Bears defeated Emory & Henry 30-2 at Moretz Stadium in Hickory. Kruse had an assist for Lenoir-Rhyne. It was the second week in a row that the Bears set the record for goals in a game. On Wednesday, Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Tusculum 19-5 at Pioneer Field in Greenville, TN. Kruse scored two goals and an assist. Kruse, a sophomore, had scored four goals and three assists this season.

Jacob Driver: A former All-Central Conference player for Cedar Ridge, Driver has started his sophomore season at Division II Mt. Olive. Driver has scored two goals in six games. Both of them came in a 25-0 win over Shorter in Rome, GA. The Trojans are 4-6 overall, 4-3 in Conference Carolinas.

Josh Crabtree: This season, Crabtree has played in 13 games for the Division III Methodist Monarchs lacrosse team. Crabtree, a sophomore who was All-State for Orange’s 2024 3A/2A/1A Eastern Regional championship team, had goals against LaGrange on March 21, against Marymount (Virgina) on February 21 and Berry College on February 7. Methodist is 7-6 overall, 4-2 in the USA South Conference.

Tigh Metheny: Another former Panther playing with Catawba College, Metheny has played in eight games this year, starting in three. He has created two turnovers and scooped up five ground balls. Metheny started the opening three games against Mt. Olive, Belmont Abbey and Barton.

Nick Cardone: A junior, Cardone has played in one game for Catawba this season. He had two ground balls in the Indians 22-8 win over Tusculum on Saturday at Shuford Stadium in Salisbury. Catawba, ranked #12 in Division II, is 9-2 overall, 4-2 in the South Atlantic Conference.

Josiah Tisdale: Also playing for Methodist, Tisdale is a junior for the Monarchs. Tisdale has played in eleven games for Methodist this season. Against Bethany (West Virginia), Tisdale had three ground balls in a 24-1 win for Methodist. Tisdale also had two ground balls against Southwestern of Texas on February 27, which the Pirates won 14-8 at Monarch Stadium in Fayetteville.

Alden Cathey: Now in his sophomore season at Division III Arcadia University in Glenside, PA, Cathey has played in eleven games this season for the Knights. Cathey, a defensemen, had six ground balls in a 15-5 win over Eastern at Olson Field in St. David’s, PA. Cathey also had his lone goal of the season against the Eagles. For the season, Cathey has had 32 ground balls, including four at Delaware University in a 20-7 win for the Knights. Arcadia is 7-4 overall, 1-0 in the MAC Freedom Conference.
