Cedar Ridge’s Dominic Sena & Jesus Velázquez discuss walkoff win over East Wake Academy

The Cedar Ridge baseball team is off to the best start in 19 years, at least. For the third time this year, the Red Wolves won a game in its final at-bat when they defeated East Wake Academy 5-4 at Red Wolves Field last Wednesday. Cedar Ridge scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Eagles. After being stymied offensively for much of the night, Hudson Kelly opened the seventh inning with a double. Jesus Velazquez followed with an infield single that dribbled the first base line. After Brody Tapper drew a walk to load the bases, Grant McGuffey was hit by a pitch to score Kelly. Catcher John Grove hoisted a single up the middle to score Leo Moering and cut the East Wake Academy lead to 4-3. With two out, freshman Wil Ebron tied the game with a bases-loaded walk to score pinch-runner Parker Schultz. Dominic Sena, who had gone 0-for-3 going into the seventh inning, delivered a walkoff hit with a single down the third base line to score Grant McGuffey for the game-winning run, prompting a celebration that spilled into right field. Cedar Ridge is 9-2 and will play a doubleheader on Wednesday on the road. The Red Wolves will face D.H. Conley on 5PM. Cedar Ridge will face Yorktown, a team out of Arlington, VA, at 2PM on Wednesday.
