The first trip to the Bull City for the Orange softball team led to a decisive victory.
Senior Katie Carden went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two doubles as the Lady Panthers defeated Durham School of the Arts 20-0 in three innings on Tuesday.
Sophomore Malynne Roemmich earned the win throwing two shutout innings. Lexi Bowes finished out in mop-up duty as the Lady Panthers claimed its third straight conference win.
Orange pounded out 14 hits. Senior Addison Guentensberer also drilled two doubles and four RBIs. The Lady Panthers had four players with multi-hit games. Lily Ward and Valentina Rodriguez both had two hits. Orange roared out to six runs in the first inning with Hayleigh Hammond scoring the opening run, leading off the game with a single. Sophomore Kylee Allen scored Hammond when she reached on a bunt and the ball was thrown into right field.
The Lady Panthers sent ten batters to the plate in the opening inning.
Carden drove in Allen with a double to open the second inning, where Orange scored four runs. Roemmich sent a double to left field to bring in Payton Adams.
Cedar Ridge 16, Carrboro 0, 4 innings
Senior Mia Best threw a four inning no-hitter as the Red Wolves remain a game behind Seaforth for first place in the Big 7 Conference with a dominant home win over the Jaguars on Hillsborough on Thursday.
The Red Wolves took advantage of five Carrboro errors to pile up 14 runs in the fourth inning, leading to Cedar Ridge’s third straight run-rule victory and the fourth of the season. Madeline Galindo-Woodring, who drew a leadoff walk, scored the first run off a passed ball with Laci Sykes at the plate. Moments later, Raegan Remaly scored off a wild pitch as the Red Wolves led 2-0 at the end of an inning.
Carrboro’s only baserunner of the game came off a walk drawn by Yazmin Paisant with one out in the second inning Best recorded seven strikeouts to improve to 7-3.
Sophomore Parker Kennedy drove in three runs in the fourth inning. She knocked in Brittani Goddard on a groundout to third base to push the Red Wolves lead to 4-0. Kennedy would later stroke a double to left field to bring in Arianna McGraw and Rylee Capps. Freshman Simone Cosentio stole home to increase the Red Wolf lead to 13-0. Raegan Relay belted a single to right field to score Ainsley Burklin. Best ended the game with a two-run double, scoring Remaly and Galindo-Woodring.
