Orange baseball’s Oliver Van Tiem and Cam Stone discuss win at Carrboro

It was an unusual way to end, but still a win for the Orange baseball team. On Tuesday, the Panthers outscored Carrboro 10-7 in a game stopped after six innings due to darkness at Jaguars Field, which doesn’t have lights. Junior Oliver Van Tiem finished 2-for-4 with a double as the Panthers scored six unanswered runs to take a 7-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning. Cam Stone came in of relief of starter Ryan Sawyer and threw the sixth inning of relief. Stone had to cut off a Carrboro threat in the sixth, when the Jaguars scored a run. Van Tiem, who has committed to play at North Carolina, has fought to get healthy to return to the pitching. After serving as Orange’s designated hitter for the first six games, Van Tiem has played centerfield for the past four games. Van Tiem led off the third inning with a double that went over the head of the right fielder. That led to the Panthers taking a 4-2 lead when Wren Hash scored off a throwing error. Orange is now 3-5 overall, 1-2 in the Big 7 Conference. Tuesday’s game against Carrboro was the first of six games over eight days for Orange. The Panthers will host Heritage on Wednesday night at 6PM in Hillsborough.
