One-third of the way into the season and the Cedar Ridge baseball team remains tied for first place in the Big 7 Conference. In another pitching dual against Seaforth, senior Aidan Ryan delivered a gem on Friday night, striking out 13 Hawks in a 2-hit shutout. Ryan earned his second win of the season as Cedar Ridge swept a two-game series from Seaforth to earn the all-important head-to-head tiebreaker. It was the third straight game where the Red Wolves won by one run. On Tuesday, Cedar Ridge got the game-winning run from Hudson Kelly, who also threw a complete game on the mound. Catcher John Grove scored the game’s only run on Friday. Grove led off the second inning with a double that went over the head of the right fielder. After a groundout by Kelly to shortstop moved Kelly to third, sophomore Jesus Velazquez scored Grove with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Grove reached base in each of his three plate appearances. He had a single in the fourth and was intentionally walked in the sixth. Grove finished the game by striking out four of the last five batters. The Red Wolves are tied with South Granville at 4-0 in the Big 7. They will travel to Western Alamance on Monday night.
