Orange baseball’s J.P. Rodio & Evan Parker discuss win at Jordan

The Orange baseball team grabbed its first road win of the season on Wednesday afternoon. Scoring six unanswered runs against Jordan, the Panthers held on for a 6-5 win at David Field in Durham. Junior J.P. Rodio came on in relief of senior Ryan Sawyer in the sixth inning and earned the save. In addition, Rodio drove in two runs with a single to centerfield in the fifth inning to put Orange ahead 6-1. Rodio has a history with Jordan. He spent the first two years of his career at Northern Durham, where he lost to the Falcons for five straight times, including in the opening round of last year’s playoffs. Jordan made things interesting in the sixth inning, reducing the Panter lead to 6-5 and putting the tying run at third base. Orange junior right fielder Evan Parker made a big catch to end the six inning, battling a lingering sun and diminishing temperatures to keep Orange ahead. It ended the Panthers two-game losing streak. Parker also drove in two runs, including an RBI single to score Wren Hash during a three-run fourth inning. In the second, Parker put the Panthers ahead for good with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Hash. Orange will host Greensboro Grimsley tonight in Hillsborough.
