Cedar Ridge’s Hudson Kelly & Brody Tapper discuss win at Seaforth

The Cedar Ridge baseball team is now tied with South Granville for first place in the Big 7 Conference. On a brisk, windy night in Pittsboro, the Red Wolves earned a dramatic 3-2 win over the Hawks Tuesday. For the second straight game, Cedar Ridge scored the game-winning run in its final at-bat. Hudson Kelly reached on a single to centerfield, then reached second base on a wild pitch. Junior Brody Tapper stepped up as a pinch-hitter and sent a line drive to right field, just beyond the diving attempt by Seaforth centerfielder Bauer Bowling, who nearly made a gorgeous catch. It was fitting that Kelly scored the game-winning run. Kelly, a junior, threw a complete game to earn his second win. After scoring the game-winning run, Kelly set down the Hawks in order in the bottom of the seventh inning to preserve a win for Cedar Ridge in its first-ever trip to Seaforth. Kelly struck out seven in seven innings. It’s the second straight game where a pinch-hitter delivered the game-winning hit for the Red Wolves. Last week, Carter Warren hit a walkoff single to score Aidan Ryan in an extra innings win over Orange. Cedar Ridge is now tied for first place in the Big 7 with South Granville. The Red Wolves will host Seaforth in Hillsborough on Friday.
