This week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week is senior shortstop Grant McGuffey. Last week, McGuffey hit leadoff as the Red Wolves defeated Orange 16-3. It was the first-ever run-rule victory by the Red Wolves over the Panthers. McGuffey went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. On Friday night, McGuffey earned the victory in relief as the Red Wolves defeated the Panthers 6-5 in eight innings. Against the Panthers, McGuffey went 2-for-4 with an RBI single. McGuffey also threw the last three innings and struck out three as the Red Wolves swept its opening Big 7 Conference series of the season. McGuffey has been a member of the Cedar Ridge varsity for four years. He has hit leadoff in every game as the Red Wolves have bolted out to a 4-1 start. Against Southeast Alamance, McGuffey went 1-for-4 and scored a run in a 7-1 Cedar Ridge win. Last season, McGuffey hit .308 with 20 hits for a Cedar Ridge team that made the state playoffs. In the season opener against Voyager Academy, McGuffey went 2-for-4 with three RBIs as the Red Wolves defeated the Vikings 11-2 in Hillsborough. McGuffey was the opening day starter on the mound and earned the win, giving up one unearned run in four innings with three strikeouts. McGuffey will continue his senior season in Pittsboro against Seaforth on Tuesday.
