Cedar Ridge Baseball’s Carter Warren, Jesus Velazquez & Aidan Ryan discuss walkoff win over Orange

For the first time since 2018, the Cedar Ridge baseball team got a home win over Orange. On a chilly night, Carter Warren delivered a walkoff single to score Aidan Ryan as the Red Wolves defeated the Panthers 6-5 in eight innings. It’s the first time in 18 years, at least, that Cedar Ridge swept a conference series from Orange. Trailing 5-4 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, sophomore second baseman Jesus Velazquez sent a first-pitch fastball to the wall in right field. Aidan Ryan followed with a game-tying liner down the right field line to bring in Velazquez and tie the game. Carter Warren, inserted into the game in the fourth inning as a pinch-hitter, delivered a liner to left field for a base hit. Ryan slid into home plate for the game-winning to set up a joyous celebration. Ryan started the night pitching and had an effective performance as the Red Wolves claimed its third straight win. Last week, Ryan allowed only one hit in a win at Southeast Alamance. At the end of the first week of Big 7 Conference action, the Red Wolves are tied with South Granville and Seaforth for first place in the league at 2-0. Cedar Ridge will start at two-games series with Seaforth in Pittsboro on Tuesday.
