For almost her entire time at Cedar Ridge, Ellamarie Perel has been an athlete for all seasons.
She has played varsity volleyball for two conference championship teams in the fall and a center for the Cedar Ridge basketball team in the winter.
Perel started her third season as the goalkeeper for the Cedar Ridge women’s soccer team by stopping two penalty kicks against Northwood in the season opener. Overall, Perel made eight saves as the Red Wolves defeated the Chargers 2-1 in Pittsboro on March 4.
Junior Kate Finnegan, the leading scorer from last year’s team, scored two goals to open the season. Alex Tong and Gracie Whitaker each assisted on Finnegan’s goals, both of which were scored in the first half.
Finnegan, going into her third season on the varsity, paced the Red Wolves with 29 goals. Last year, Finnegan had four goals in a 9-6 win over Northwood in Hillsborough. Finnegan scored four goals in three consecutive games against Northwood, Durham School of the Arts and Southern Nash last season.
Southern Alamance 3, Cedar Ridge 1: Last Friday, Finnegan scored the Red Wolves lone goal in its home opener against Southern Alamance. The Patriots added two goals in the second half to win. Cayla Shaw had a brace for Southern Alamance.
Cedar Ridge will travel to Bartlett Yancey on Tuesday night (tonight).
