Charlotte Lowry: The former Cedar Ridge pitcher has made her first appearances inside the circle at Division II Lees-McRae. Lowry earned her first save in a 12-1 win over Shaw University on February 14 in Raleigh. Lowry tossed two scoreless innings, allowing only two hits with two strikeouts. Lowry earned another save in Lees-McRae’s 21-9 win over Carolina University on February 18 at Wilson Park. Lowry closed out the game throwing three-and-one-tenths innings, allowing one unearned runs with three hits. Lowry has made six pitching appearances and has a 3.89 ERA. Lees-McRae is 7-9 overall.
Mary Moss Wirt: To start her senior season at Elon, Wirt delivered a grand slam against Mount St. Mary’s during the Elon Softball Invitational on February 12 at Hunt Softball Park at Elon. Wirt, starting at catcher, drove in all five runs against the Mountaineers, adding a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Mount St. Mary’s won the opening game 9-5. Elon would take the second game of the doubleheader 12-1. On February 21, Wirt went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the Phoenix’s 10-1 win over Dartmouth during the Dugout Club Classic in Tallahassee, FL on February 20. The following day, Wirt went 2-for-3 with a double in a 4-3 win over Dartmouth. Wirt has started 18 of the Phoenix’s 19 games. Elon is 4-15 and starts play in the Coastal Athletic Association against North Carolina A&T on Friday.
Kimber Shambley: In her first at-bat at Western Carolina, Shambley had an RBI single. On February 11 in the second game of a doubleheader against North Carolina A&T, Shambley stroked a single to left field in the fourth inning. The Catamounts defeated the Aggies 16-2 in five innings at Catamount Softball Complex in Cullowhee. Shambley also played against Purdue on Saturday, which the Boilermakers won 8-2. Western Carolin is 10-6 and will host Penn to open the Catamount Classic starting this Friday.
Sadie Cecil: The Division II Mars Hill softball team has won nine in a row. Cecil has driven in a run in seven consecutive games for the Lions. In the second game of a doubleheader against North Grenville on February 25, Cecil had two doubles and finished 2-for-3 as Mars Hill won 7-4. Cecil, hitting fifth in the order and playing third base, hit her third home run of the season in the opening game of the doubleheader against the Trailblazers, a solo blast in the fourth inning. Cecil hit a three-run homer in the first inning of a 5-4 victory over Fayetteville State. So far in her freshman season, Cecil leads the team with a .431 batting average. She also leads the team with 25 hits, 24 RBIs and six doubles.
Allie Carden: Another Mars Hill freshman who graduated from Orange last June, Carden has played in two games. She had her first college single as a pinch-hitter in the Lions 13-5 win over Lees-McRae on February 16.
Carson Bradsher: Starting her junior season at Division III Averett University, Bradsher is hitting .486 with through ten games. On February 21, Bradsher hit 5-for-7 in a doubleheader sweep at Salem in Winston-Salem. In the second game, Bradsher went 3-for-4 with two runs scored as the Cougars won 12-3 in five innings. In the opening game, Bradsher went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as the Cougars won 14-3 in five innings. On February 25, Bradsher went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI as Averett defeated the Pacers 13-3 in Raleigh. Averett completed the doubleheader sweep with a 6-2 victory in the nightcap. Bradsher finished 1-for-4. Bradsher leads the team with 15 hits and five stolen bases. She is tied for the team lead with eleven runs scored. This weekend, Averett will play in the Grand Slam Triangle Softball Complex in Raleigh. The Cougars are 7-3.
Kelsey Tackett: Another former Orange player, Tackett has started her junior year at Division III North Carolina Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops are 2-4-1 overall.
