Cedar Ridge junior swimmer Christopher Seawell had a strong finish to the season during the 5A State Championships on Friday morning. Seawell earned the bronze medal in the 100 yard freestyle at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. Faced against the best in the state, Seawell registered a time of 49.65 second, narrowly missing out on the silver medal. It was a busy day for Seawell, which also finished fourth in the 100 yard backstroke at the state championships with a time of 56.26 seconds. Seawell also competed in two separate relay events on Friday. In the 400 yard freestyle relay, Seawell teamed with J.E. Sandor, Simon Salazar-Coronado and Zion Green to finish seventh in the state at 3:45.23. Seawell’s performance helped Cedar Ridge finish eighth in the team standings with 95 points, 2nd best among Big 7 Conference teams. It was a bittersweet day for the Red Wolves. The 5A State Championships marked the final meet for Cedar Ridge swimming coach Amanda Jones, who is stepping down. Jones has been the leader of Cedar Ridge swimming for six seasons. Seawell has qualified for the state championships in all three of his seasons at Cedar Ridge. He will move on to travel season this spring before starting his senior year next winter.
