Playing its second game in 16 hours, the Orange women’s basketball team stood steady in beating a determined Carrboro team on Saturday afternoon. Kassidy Tolliver scored 15 points to lead the Lady Panthers past the Jaguars 56-42 at Panther Gymnasium. Orange never trailed and established the tone early draining five 3-pointers in the first quarter. Lily Wilson came off the bench and finished with a career-high 13 points, including shots from behind the arc in the first quarter. Orange jumped out to a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Carrboro fought back to get the lead back to single-digits in the second quarter. Senior Maura McMurtry finished with ten points. Another senior, Natalie Roberson, hit two 3-pointers. Roberson continues to do the little things to help Orange win. Against Durham School of the Arts on Friday night, Roberson had seven points, six steals, four assists and a blocked shot. Senior Payton Borland has added more depth for the Lady Panthers, who played eleven players against the Jaguars. Borland is also a starter for the Orange softball team. Orange enters the final week of the regular season tied for first in the Big 7 Conference. On Monday night, the Lady Panthers will face one of the team they’re tied with, South Granville, in Creedmoor. It’s the first of three games in four days to finish the regular season.
